For a fun full day of learning activities you can combine any of the activity options below with access to the Visitor Centre. Our team can recommend the best combination of activities for your group depending on your topic of interest and schedule.

MINI DISCOVERY TOUR

Discover what life was like in the past…

An abridged version of our guided tours, designed to provide maximum engagement for our youngest visitors. Groups will visit the impressive waterwheel, see the incredible textile floor, and explore a ‘single end’ to experience how people lived in the past.

  • Curriculum: SOC 0-04a, SOC 0-07a
  • Level: P1 – 2
  • Duration: 45 minutes
  • Recommended group size: Up to 30 pupils per tour.
  • Available Tuesday to Thursday (inclusive) 

TOYS FROM THE PAST

In touch with history

A hands-on session exploring how children played in the past. Children will get the chance to handle and play with our replica toys and exploring how they work, the materials they’re made of, and how they compare to their own modern day toys.

  • Curriculum: SOC 0-02a, SOC 0-04a, SCN 0-04a
  • Level: Early Years – P2
  • Recommended group size: Up to 30 pupils per session.
  • Session length: 1 hour
  • Available Tuesday to Thursday (inclusive)

HISTORIC CLASSROOM

A customised session of our popular roleplay is available for P1-2.

Led by a costumed facilitator, our immersive classroom sessions allow learners to experience what the school day was like in the 1820s. This session takes place in our reconstructed historic classroom where learners write with authentic slates, try out a marching drill, and compare their experience to modern day schooling.

  • Curriculum: SOC 0-04a, EXA 0-10a, EXA 0-12a, LIT 0-02a, LIT 0-21b, MNU 0- 02a
  • Level: P1 – 2
  • Recommended group size: Up to 30 pupils
  • Session length: 1 hour

SELF-LED VISIT

You are welcome to bring your group to the Visitor Centre and take them around yourself. Highlights that infant groups might enjoy include:
