What to Expect

Explore the art of hand weaving with a focus on luxurious cashmere and locally sourced wool. Lanark’s historic mills, including our own New Lanark, have long been a hub for yarn production, inspiring crafts rooted in fashion and outdoor industries. This workshop, led by CLL’s expert tutors April Lannigan BA MLitt and Garrett Ure BA MLitt from the Glasgow School of Art, blends tradition with innovation.

In this single session, you’ll discover cashmere’s high-end fashion origins and its ties to Lanark’s milling legacy, master plain weave techniques using DIY cardboard looms, and craft your own weaves with Alex Begg or New Lanark wool in a relaxed, social setting. Get creative—draw, paint, join, or stack your creations as you please!
