Spanning an impressive 9,000 square feet, the New Lanark Roof Garden is a horticultural gem designed by Douglas Coltart. Its elegant curves and swirls echo the motion of the historic water-wheels and machinery once used in the cotton mills, weaving a connection between nature and New Lanark’s industrial past. Lovingly maintained by dedicated volunteers, the garden showcases a diverse array of plants, including yew, hornbeam, thistle, allium, and honeysuckle. Perched 350 feet above sea level, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside that are sure to captivate. This event coincides with an exciting replanting project, restoring the garden to its original design from 17 years ago—making now a truly special time to visit. Afterward, unwind with refreshments at the Visitor Attraction cafe.
