Every month we're celebrating and exploring a special story from New Lanark's past with our online monthly series of talks.

Stories from the Mills is our monthly online talk series exploring remarkable aspects of New Lanark’s past. Each session focuses on a different theme, bringing to life the rich social, cultural, and industrial history of the village and its people.

Upcoming online talks: 

  • Thursday 25th  June – 10am – New Lanark’s Hidden Histories: We’re uncovering some of the hidden histories of the site, from the lives of paupers and pupil teachers, to hidden structures and lost buildings…
  • Friday 31st July – 10am – The People of New Lanark: Explore the fascinating lives of local people from familiar figures like David Dale and Robert Owen to the lesser-known paupers, doctors, soldiers and Millworkers.
  • Friday 28th August – 10am – New Lanark’s Poetry, Music and Art: Uncover some of the poets, musicians and artists who lived and worked at New Lanark. From WWI poetry, to cosmic paintings, New Lanark has a rich and colourful history to explore.
  • Friday 25th September – 10am – New Lanark’s Gaelic Connection: This September, we’re celebrating Gaelic Week by exploring the history of New Lanark’s connection to the Highland Clearances and Immigration.
  • Friday 20th November – 10am – The Soldiers of New Lanark: In honour of Remembrance Week, we’ll be exploring the stories of New Lanark’s soldiers, from their childhoods in New Lanark, to their experiences as young men during the war.
