Volunteering

Here at New Lanark World Heritage Site we have a fantastic team of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Anyone can join the volunteer team and there are a wide variety of areas in which you can help out. For all roles, time commitment is flexible and full training is provided.

Our current volunteer opportunities are listed below however, if you feel you can support us in another way, please get in touch.

Historic Buildings Volunteers

FEATURED OPPORTUNITY

Historic Buildings Volunteers

Historic Buildings Volunteers join our team of staff and volunteers to be ambassadors for New Lanark across our World Heritage Site. They will play an important role in welcoming visitors from all over the world, making their visit memorable and informative. The purpose of this role is to assist and inform visitors at various historic buildings throughout the site, from Robert Owen’s House to the Village Store, and to interpret the unique objects housed within these buildings. Time commitment is flexible and full training will be provided.

Exhibition Steward Volunteer

Exhibition Steward volunteers will join a diverse team of enthusiastic helpers who support the delivery of world-class exhibitions at New Lanark. Exhibition Steward volunteers play a key role in the day to day running of the Exhibition Gallery and in ensuring that New Lanark’s exhibition space is a welcoming and friendly environment. Events (Public Programme) Volunteer

Public Programming volunteers will join a diverse team of enthusiastic helpers who support the delivery of events and workshops at New Lanark. Our public programme is held on various dates throughout the year, often on evenings, weekends and during school holiday periods so volunteers must be flexible and often able to help out at short notice! New Lanark Archive & Search Room Volunteer
Volunteers in this area assist with the research, cataloguing, care and public promotion of our historic archive collection of artefacts, photographs, drawings, documents and oral histories. This is the perfect role for people interested in heritage and history, especially if you like nothing better than exploring old stuff and discovering new things! Click here to view the Archive Volunteer role description.

 
Garden & Grounds Volunteer
If you enjoy working in the great outdoors or are particularly green fingered, then this is the role for you! Volunteers in this area help with the ongoing horticultural and general maintenance of the outdoor areas at New Lanark, including Clearburn Natural Picnic & Play Area, the Roof Garden and the War Memorial Garden. Click here to view the Garden & Grounds volunteer role description.
Marketing at Visit Scotland Marketing Volunteer
Marketing volunteers will form a part of the New Lanark Heritage Team and will be involved in the promotion of the World Heritage Site and all of its features including a visitor centre, café, 2 shops, hotel, hostel, health & fitness club, wool sales and ice cream. Crafts & Outreach Volunteer
This is the perfect role for creative folk who love working with children and families. Our craft learning volunteers assist with craft workshops during school holiday periods, events at New Lanark which require crafts or children’s activities and educational activities for visitors throughout the year. Click here to view the Crafts & outreach volunteer role description.
