Daily Guided Tours
Christmas Weekends: On weekends from 2nd - 24th December, plus Friday 22nd December the New Lanark Christmas Events will be running. There will be no Daily Guided Tours taking place on these dates. The Annie McLeod Ride will also be changed over to the Spirit of Christmas Ride during this period.
Discover the fascinating 'Story of New Lanark' with our new series of guided tours which run twice daily. Find out about the key historical milestones on the village’s timeline that helped shape it into the UNESCO World Heritage Site it is today!
Visitors who don’t have time to visit the whole Visitor Attraction, or have visited before can still have a chance to discover more about the history of the village by paying £5 to join one of the tours (this is paid at reception).
if you have any enquiries about the Daily Guided Tours please let us know by calling 01555 661345 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org (Office hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday)
Tour themes include one general and one with a more in-depth look at one of a range of subjects. These are:
The Story of New Lanark - Explore the history of New Lanark from its inception to the present day operation. Who owned the mills? How many people worked here? How did the mills operate? Discover the answer to these questions and more as our guides tells the story of New Lanark and the people who lived and worked here for almost 200 years.
Architectural History of New Lanark - Discover the fascinating, and sometimes hidden history of the unique buildings that are the heart of New Lanark. From the giant mills and the changes that have been implemented throughout the years to the tenement housing and iconic public buildings, the tour will also take in some lost buildings and some hidden gems.
Robert Owen, Socialist Reformer - Delve into the life of New Lanark’s most famous Mill Manager, Robert Owen. From his beginnings as a Mill Manager in Manchester, to his vision of a better future for everyone, the reforms he put in place at New Lanark to his ‘failed’ utopian experiment in Indiana and from his work as a promoter of co-operation and fair trade to the legacy he left behind, you’ll discover how wide reaching his influence was, and is.
