Lanimer Week Information 

Lanark Lanimer Day is an ancient celebration held within the Royal Burgh of Lanark on the Thursday between the 6th and 12th days of June annually since the year 1140. This year, Lanimer Day will fall on Friday 9th June. On this date New Lanark Visitor Centre will have the restricted opening hours of 12pm-4pm due to local road closures (see full details below). There will be NO 11am Guided Tour on 9th June - only one at 2pm.

The opening hours of the other main areas of New Lanark are as follows:

  • Mill Café and Mill Shop open 9am-4pm. (limited menu available in the café)
  • Village Store will be open 10.30am - 4pm.
  • No change to the opening hours of the New Lanark Mill Hotel.
  • New Lanark Health & Fitness Club open 12.30pm  - 7.30pm.


On the evening of Tuesday 6th June, the ‘Evening Ride Out’ by the Cornet, Ex-Lord Cornets and friends will arrive at New Lanark around 8pm to be welcomed by the New Lanark Village Group. The presentation of the New Lanark ‘Loving Cup’ to the Lanimer Queen-elect will then take place, followed by the presentation of prizes to the Horse Chase winners. Please note around 7.30 - 8pm there will be traffic delays in the village as the horses arrive. 


Road Closures

Phase 1 - A706 Hope Street, Lanark from A73 Bloomgate to Waterloo Road. (Monday the 5th June 2015 from 17.00 hours until 18.15 hours)

Phase 2 – St Leonards Street, High Street, Wellgate, Wellgatehead, Ladyacre Road, St Vincent Place, Lanark over their entire lengths and Bannatyne Street, Lanark between its junctions with Woodstock Road and St Leonards Street. (Monday the 5th June 2016 from 18.45 hours until 21.00 hours)

Phase 3 – St Leonards Street, High Street, Wellgate, Wellgatehead, Ladyacre Road, St Vincent Place, Bannatyne Street, Kildare Road, Hall Place, Gallowhill Road, Hope Street, Hyndford Road over their entire lengths and Bloomgate, Lanark between its junction with Hope Street and High Street. (Friday 9th June 2016 from 08.00 hours until 19.30 hours.)

Alternative Route:- Alternative Routes will be signposted.

The Order will operate in 3 phases, with phase 1 being operational on Monday the 5th June 2015 from 17.00 hours until 18.15 hours, phase 2 being in operation on Monday the 5th June 2016 from 18.45 hours until 21.00 hours, and phase 3 being in operation on Friday 9th June 2016 from 08.00 hours until 19.30 hours.
